Help Support the Spinks Family

With the unexpected sadness and encroaching financial concerns surrounding my son and his family while they await the birth of their new baby who has just been diagnosed with a major heart defect, this go fund me page has been set up to create a way family, friends and others can help during this challenging time. As a single income family and Jiah having to cut back on work until mum and baby are home from hospital, the financial strain is already weighing. The goal set is to help with immediate costs for relocation costs to Brisbane Hospital, travel expenses, meals and other bills.

What has happened?

Jiah and his wife Jodie, with their 2 children Amelia 4 and Oakley 1 were over the moon when they found out they were expecting their 3rd baby around Christmas Eve. This joy quickly dissipated when they received the saddening and crippling news at their 20 week scan. Their little bubba has a major heart defect and will require various medical procedures and possible multiple surgeries, all of which will be made clearer when the little one is born.

How has this affected their life?

Usually Jodie and Jiah relish at birth in the surprise of finding out their baby’s gender but after receiving this devastating news they were told much earlier, while Doctors and specialists prepared them for the worst and possible loss.

The immediate shock of discovering their little girl has major health issues has left them and their loved ones feeling anxious, scared and confused but never without optimism. Pregnancy is usually a time of joy and happiness but the past few months have been stressful and most of all sad. All the usual delight and gaiety preparing for a newborn has been dampened with the constant heavy cloud of uncertainty and wavering angst around her arrival and hopeful survival.

Jiah and Jodie said ‘the next few months is going to change our lives, in what we thought would be so exciting welcoming a baby at Christmas time has turned to nothing but worry and very stressful’.

What will happen now?

They were once the first parents to birth in the Murwillumbah Hospital’s new birthing center and after 2 healthy births there, have been told this is no longer an option. Already enduring a series of extra tests, the fear and risks of an amniocentesis and traveling for specialised consultations, diagnosis and support, specialists have requested the family relocate to Brisbane at 36 weeks, where both mother and unborn will be monitored and cared for to prepare for the best possible outcome for the birthing and to ensure they are in the safest place for the little one for whatever the journey will be while she is here.

Oakley is only 1 and will be staying with his mumma during this time while she requires 24 hour support, with shifts being organised between family members. To help maintain some normalcy Amelia will stay at preschool till the end of this remaining term in Dec with the help of family. Being apart will be very upsetting and disturbing, especially for Mill and Oaks as they are such a close knit family. Daddy will cut work back to 3 days a week up until leaving work indefinitely just before the baby is born and travel to and from Brisbane with Amelia so they can still try to function as a family and be together during all this upheaval and very trying time.

How and where these funds will be used most to help?

Being a single income family, cutting back on work until Mum and baby are home from hospital puts an incredible amount of financial strain on top of an increasingly difficult situation. Travel expenses, relocation costs, meals and unexpected bills add a disquieting burden. Meanwhile on top of all this, the every day bills don’t stop coming in to raise 2 children and keep their family home.

This is where you can help.

All funds raised here will be used to help pay for the basics to help give our little baby girl the best fighting chance at a new life while keeping the family together. With every dollar going to ensure the family have the financial assistance they need to deal with the inevitable financial strains and stresses they are already incurring.
