Hello everyone. My name is Kim Frost and I am looking to raise money for someone very near and dear to my heart. I have known Andrea since I was two years old and have considered her a sister since that moment. Delanie is like a niece to me and I love her just as much as I love my own blood.
On Monday October 6th, Andrea took Delanie in for a check up with her family doctor. Delanie was feeling under the weather and losing weight over the last 2 months. Andrea and Delanie were thinking it may have been related to anxiety and wanted to get that checked out. They did a physical and some lab work and went on their way. Andrea got a call later Monday afternoon that changed everything. She was told that she needed to take Delanie to the ER because of her blood levels and a concern that she may have a tumor somewhere in her body. They went to Allen hospital in Waterloo and ran further testing. She had a CT scan as well as ultrasound. They received the results that Delanie had a mass in her pelvis which was likely on her Ovary or Uterus. Allen consulted with the U of I Childrens Hospital due to her age and the likelihood of them needing to remove the mass and Allen did not have the resources to treat her. They were sent by ambulance to the
U of I late Monday night/Tuesday morning and went to the ER. Further testing was done and they made the decision that admitting Delanie for surgery was the next step.
Andrea and Delanie had an idea of what the mass was but had to wait until surgery was done and pathology results came back to confirm. Delanies tumor is a malignant germ cell neoplasm of the ovary. Delanie underwent a 6 hour surgery where she had a football size tumor removed from her left ovary as well as removing her left ovary, removal of her appendix as well as several nodules that ranged in size from 2-7cm. There were other small spots that could not be safely surgically removed. The doctor was confident that they were able to safely remove about 90-95% of the cancer during that surgery. Delanie will have to have further treatment to remove the rest of the cancer.
The next step is a pet scan that will take place Monday October 13th. Once those results are in and her full pathology is back, the pediatric oncology and OBGYN oncology will come up with a treatment plan.
At this time we are hoping to raise money to help the family with medical bills, traveling, and time off of work. Please share and donate if you can to help ease the financial burden so that is one less thing to worry about and they can focus on Delanie getting healthy!
