On August 23, 2022, at 2:39 am, my older brother, Colin James Vinh Pho, passed away after being the victim of a hit-and-run car accident, wherein Colin was hit directly from behind at approximately 9:30 pm, crossing an intersection. It was not until three hours hitherto that our mother and father were notified, and they immediately traveled down to the hospital he was at. He refused to pass until our parents were there with him.
Some of the most unthinkable experiences, moments, and expenses have unearthed themselves due to this event. Expenses we had not even put into account, expenses we never prepared for. You never financially prepare for the sudden death of a loved one and we certainly were in no position prior to this (or even now) to do anything should something like this happen. And it has happened.
It is in my belief, as not only his brother but also another child of his parents, that burying a child is not the burden of their parents. It is the burden I hold, as my mother and father’s son, to watch their lives end and deal with the repercussions. Going into adulthood with the intent of having children, my mother and father never remotely accounted for how to bring someone into this world and only shortly after that watched them leave.
To whoever this may be exposed to, we, as a family, are asking for your support. This is not a burden we were ever prepared for. This is not a burden anyone else should ever prepare for. We are stood and the opposite of calm in the pandemonium of this storm and are simply asking for anyone to exhibit help, support, company and empathy during a time that is going to get progressively more tumultuous as it continues.
Leave a dollar, Leave five. Leave a share or a like. Leave a story or pictures of a memory you had with Colin. Whatever it is you may give, we welcome with open arms.
