On June 19, 2020 tradgedy struck the McKittrick family when Andrea Zutic-McKittrick had a massive heart attack and died in front of her husband, Patrick and her son, Matthew.
Death is something that we know is inevitable, but something that we never think is going to happen to us. Andrea was always worried what would happen to Matthew if she were to die. That fear has emerged as Matthew is now without his beloved mom. Patrick who is on disability will now be the sole caretaker for Matthew. We have started this GoFundme page to help with funeral costs, as well as, release some of the burden that now lies on Patrick as a single dad. The costs of raising a child today are alot, but sometimes the costs of raising a child with ASD can be astronomical. If you can contribute anything to this family in need, it is greatly appreciated.
Here is our story about how we came to know and love Andrea:
We first met Andrea at Woodrow Wilson Community School when her son Matthew was starting out at age 3. Matthew was diagnosed with low-functioning Autism and required Special Education services. Everyone immediately fell in love with Matthew, but what we didn't know was that everyone would also love Andrea and her husband. The bond was immediate, from the teachers, to the assistants, therapists, psychologist, and straight to the administration. Andrea became a fixture at our school. Always bubbly, happy, and sarcasticly talking about her husband (right in front of him of course!) She kept us all laughing every time she was around. One thing that resonated from Andrea was her love for her son Matthew. Matthew was the light of her life and to Matthew his mom was his world. She worked side by side with the educators in Matthews life to ensure that he was getting everything he ever needed and more. There was love, trust, honesty, and acceptance that was formed in the relationships that Andrea and Patrick had with our WWCS team. A few years ago Matthew's behaviors became more than a public school can handle and Matthew was transferred to a private school that was able to provide him everything he needed and more, in a setting that fit his needs. Andrea was scared, she knew that he needed it, but she didn't want to lose the bond she had built with the people who cared for him, for so long. We didn't allow that to happen. Andrea became a fixture at our school often stopping by with donuts and coffee for the principal and pictures of Matthew to give to everyone. This is something that we will all truly miss, along with Andrea and her beautiful personality.
In Woodrow Wilson Community School we consider ourselves a family and Andrea was a part of that family. Help us help her beloved Matthew and her husband during this tragic time. We thank you and remember that even on the darkest days the sun will find it's way out again.
