For those of you who don’t know, Krista was admitted to the hospital in early February due to a brain bleed.
The bleed was caused by a cavernoma located in her brain stem. Because of the location, the neurosurgeons were adamant that the risks of removing it greatly outweighed the benefits. She was left with double vision, blurred vision, and numbness/tingling on her entire left side.
On March 30th, two months after the original bleed, Krista returned to the hospital after noticing some tingling on her right side. An MRI showed that the cavernoma had grown and continued bleeding, which the doctors report is extremely atypical and almost unheard of.
The swelling blocked off the drainage of spinal fluids which caused hydrocephalus, or water on the brain. Krista's neurosurgen was able to insert a shunt to help the fluids drain. Surgery was successful but her symptoms of blurred/double vision and numbness remain.
Although they were once adamant that the cavernoma could not be touched, Krista's doctors have now come to the conclusion that it is too aggressive and must be removed as soon as possible. They are actively seeking specialists across the country who may be willing to operate.
Being admitted to the hospital twice, surgery, and the impending costs of the cavernoma removal have racked up lots of medical bills. On top of that, Clay is out of sick days and has had to take multiple leave-without-pay days at work. All of these collective burdens, along with raising their two year-old, have created immense stress on the Massie family.
Your financial assistance would help alleviate some of that stress. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing. Any and all support is so appreciated.
