On January 23, 2025, while out of state visiting family, the Kimmey family learned that their home of over 35 years had been broken into and ransacked. A friend who had been taking in packages for them discovered the burglary, and the initial photos they were sent showed that the inside of the house and garage had been devastated and that vehicles had been stolen as well. From those photos, they were able to ascertain that among the stolen items were several family heirlooms that could never be replaced.
When they returned home three days later, they had to move into a hotel with only their possessions from their trip. After returning home, they went to look at the property to assess the damages, only to discover that the burglars had returned and taken more. As of February 12, 2025, the home has been broken into ten times, even after it was boarded up and a security fence put up around the property.
The home where the Kimmey children were raised is no longer the family’s as it has been repeatedly violated and left a shell of sorrow. As of February 12th, the family has still not been able to re-enter their home to find out what, if anything, of their lives can be salvaged. Unfortunately, the Kimmeys are getting little to no support from their insurance company. The insurance company is actually keeping them from moving forward with efforts to reclaim their lives. This experience is causing great pain and sadness, as they are left feeling like the people who they must depend on for help do not care about how the situation is affecting them. At this point, the family is at a loss how to move forward with their lives because of the way their situation is being handled.
