Help support the Horse of a Different Color!

In the past when I have done a horse for Horse Mania, I have selected artistic designs that I felt were clever and pleasing. I had no trouble getting a sponsor and someone to purchase my horse after the exhibit.

 

This time, while I'm not usually political with my work, I felt a strong need to use this horse as a way to visually capture the strong feelings I have surrounding the BLM movement.

 

This design was not chosen to be sponsored.

 

I was planning on just paying for the horse and doing it myself because I felt it is an important statement. However, a friend suggested that I do gofundme to allow others to participate in this important project and get some publicity for a Horse of a Different Color.

 

"As an artist, I have sought to use mixed media to create aesthetically pleasing works that people would hopefully appreciate and enjoy. Using my art for societal commentary or political statement has not been my goal. This work is literally A Horse of a Different Color.  My goal is to create something that makes a bold statement about our common humanity as a nation and how as a white man, my eyes and heart are open to something deeply important to our nation. 

This Horse of a Different Color is a black horse that proudly wears the colors of diversity. Patterns based upon African prints encompass the vivid colors of our jockey silks, uniting the past with the beauty of today.   The areas left uncolored,  the core of the horse, unapologetically convey Black Lives Matter.  We can continue a tradition of overlooking those who have not only contributed to the foundations of horse racing,  but also much to our nation's deep diverse roots, or we can bet on the future that truly embraces and celebrates all. That would be A Horse of a Different Color."
