Help Support The Heberer Family—Medical Expenses
Donation protected
My name is Heidi van Esselstyn and I am starting this GoFundMe for the Heberer Family to assist with medical bills and unpaid time off from work that Tommy and Amanda will have to take in the next few weeks/months to care for Cal. My family met Tommy 6+ years ago when my son, Brooks became involved with the May River High School lacrosse program. In those 6+ years, Tommy has been a coach, mentor, and friend to Brooks. I’m confident there are many other Bluffton families whose sons have benefited from Coach Heberer’s knowledge and friendship.
We were all shocked when we learned that Cal, the sweetest 10 year-old ever, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Right now, Tommy and Amanda aren’t sure what type of treatment Cal is going to need, and they are worried about hospital bills/insurance co-pays, and the possibility of a leave of absence from work, etc. This GoFund Me is being started to help offset medical bills and household expenses so Tommy and Amanda can concentrate on Cal, Reid and Charlie while they wait to find out what’s next for Cal.
If you live in our Bluffton community, you may know the Heberer Family. They are everywhere: baseball, wrestling, lacrosse, River Ridge Academy, May River High School, Break Thru Lacrosse, Bluffton Youth Sports, Bluffton Waves Travel Baseball Club, SEB Prime Baseball, Reverence Wrestling, etc.
If the Heberer Family is at a baseball game or wrestling match for their kids, you can be sure they are cheering on your kids, too. Tommy coaches lacrosse at May River High School; the boys affectionately call him “Hebby.” I cannot tell you the countless hours Tommy has spent on the phone with his players encouraging, coaching, listening, helping them become better young men, and providing guidance as they pursue their dreams of playing collegiate sports (and this is after he’s worked a full day and had a full practice!).
Additionally, Cal is the bat boy for May River’s Varsity Baseball Team! Cal and the baseball players have secret handshakes, and the players can count on Cal to bring the big bucket of bubble gum to the dugout. Between MRHS lacrosse and baseball, the Heberer kids have a ton of older “brothers” as high school boys love having the Heberer kids around.
So what can you do to help?
-if you are able to contribute to this GoFundMe or Venmo (@Amanda-Heberer-1), even the smallest amount helps, so thank you!!
-please share this GoFundMe with friends, family, co-workers, church members, on your social media, etc.
-consider providing a meal to the Heberer Family https://mealtrain.com/814m5n
-most importantly, please pray for Cal and the Heberer family. We all just love this sweet family.
I will do my best to post updates. Please reach out with any questions, fundraiser ideas, etc. I love our Bluffton community. I know we will do our best to support Cal and his family.
