Message From Kendra Santiago-Lopez (Quibodeaux)

It truly was the love story you only read about in novels. I can stand here with multiple witnesses to attest to Gerardo Santiago-Lopez and my love story. It was one no one would bet there odds against, but in the end I can now truly say, was one that conquered and was heavily enjoyed throughout. I met the love of my life in 2009 working as a waitress at Pedro's. He was a cook and all I was to him was someone that came to deliver plates. My drawing toward him was something I have never experienced. From the moment we were introduced we were always together. He spoke little English and I no Spanish, but oddly enough, our souls connected.

I gave the moon and back to him, and he as well to me from the beginning. He returned shortly after to Mexico and we continued our relationship via phone. It was quite the stretch for someone that barely passed high school spanish and completely dropped Spanish 1 in college. Regardless, I found myself in Mexico following the love of my life, hopelessly falling for the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I moved to Mexico in 2011. I had previously spent a few months with Gerardo Santiago-Lopez and his family and was surrounded by love and support and still to this day have a family where my heart beats, long from where I can grasp but felt all the way. We were married with all of his family and my mother and father who made it to be with us. It was the most beautiful service and we laughed and cried from joy, but most importantly was surrounded by people who loved us.

We were different from the beginning. I believe for a purpose. Gerardo was there with every birth of his kids and saw all of them grow in the Lord. I said from the very beginning that if I could say one thing to my future kids it would be this, "Love can conquer all things, just look at me and your dad". We fought many unspeakable battles, overcame some of the most darkest times you could overcome as couples, but in the end, Love overcame. I love Gerardo Santiago-Lopez with a love that I'm afraid many people may never get to experience.
If he was here right now I think he would say the same thing. Love can overcome. I also truly believe that if there was anyone on this earth that could understand as much as Gerardo Santiago-Lopez did of the Love of Jesus Christ, then he would stand here today and tell you it is worth it to give your life to him, It's worth it. I stand here today, as a widow. It comes off of the tongue with quite the sting. However, widow I may be; I loved fiercely, I loved boldly, I loved unconditionally, and most importantly I was loved with the same through my husband. I pray that you stand encouraged because I do. I know I will see my husband again, and when I do he will say, "I never imagined it would be this glorious."

❤️ I must agree.
