Many of you know Steve, Naomi, and their son Ted Fryers — whether as friends, relatives, schoolmates, or through the local footy community. If you do, you’ll know they’re the kind of family who bring warmth, humour, and generosity wherever they go.

Right now, they’re navigating an incredibly difficult chapter, and we (Trav and Connie) want to share their story in the hope that their community might rally around them — whether that’s through sharing their story, sending messages of encouragement, offering a hand, or contributing a small donation to help give them a hand up.

Steve’s Health Journey

Earlier this year, Steve was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of hereditary lung cancer. He has already undergone major surgery and is now receiving both chemotherapy and radiation treatment. These treatments have taken a huge toll, leaving him exhausted and unwell. As a result, Steve has had to take significant time away from work, using up much of his leave and placing extra strain on the family’s finances.

Naomi’s Ongoing Battle

Many will also know that Naomi has been courageously open about her long-term struggle with mental health. This year has seen several hospitalisations, including an intensive inpatient stay in September. Her condition makes it difficult to maintain regular work, which adds to the family’s challenges — both emotionally and financially.

About Ted

At the heart of it all is Ted, their bright, kind, and compassionate son. He’s known for his big smile, gentle nature, and positive attitude — the kind of kid who lights up a room and makes everyone feel welcome. Ted has been taking all of these changes in his stride, showing resilience beyond his years.

Recently, however, the family received an unexpected increase in secondary school fees, prompting difficult decisions about Ted’s high school plans. He had been so looking forward to starting this next chapter surrounded by his mates, and this uncertainty has added another layer of stress for the family.

A Family That’s Always Given So Much

If you know Steve, you’ll know he’s the first to lend a hand — mowing neighbours’ lawns, rescuing the odd stray (even if it ends in a possum bite!), and always showing up for others. This time, it’s our turn to show up for them.

We’re hoping to ease some of the load and help them focus on what really matters: healing, recovery, and time together as a family.
