Hello! I'm Justin, the leader of the Hot Rods Robotics team. We're an aspiring first-year team launching our rookie FRC (First Robotics Competition) season. Our goal is to succeed in the FRC BC Regional Competition, aiming to represent British Columbia on a global stage in the FIRST Championship competition.

What is FRC?

FRC is a world-renowned program that tasks high-school student teams with two monumental challenges. Along with being tasked to build, design and compete with 120 lb robots, teams need to fundraise upwards of $50,000 to support the initiative. We're aiming to raise $7,000 by the end of September to cover early-season material costs, and working towards our final goal of $50,000 by February 20.

Why does this matter?

FRC is more than just a robotics competition. It is a valuable opportunity for students to learn high-investment skills.

Hands-On engineering: Students learn Mechanical and Electrical engineering, Computer Aided Design and Coding - all at an industrial level that provides valuable experience and jumpstarts their STEM-aligned minds.

Transferable skills and Careers: Team leaders are tasked with managing a 25-50 person team with a range of unique strengths, fostering individual growth and professional leadership skills. Teams also gain experience connecting with sponsors and corporate businesses, as well as presenting themselves as a brand.

Community impact: Teams are encouraged to mentor younger students to stimulate interest in STEM and make an intellectual impact in their community.

What does your support fund?

-Robot building materials

The majority of the funds will go here. Building materials include metal, machined plastic, electronic devices (such as motors, batteries, cameras, wiring and sensors, etc.), 3D printing filament, motion parts (axles, gears, belts, chains, sprockets, bearings, etc.), robotics kits and more. The majority of the parts will be sourced through local sponsors and companies willing to support us, or bought on the REV website (https://www.revrobotics.com/)

-Industrial-grade tools and safety equipment

Above all, safety is the most important. Funds will be used to purchase protective glasses, face shields, gloves, first aid kits and workshop suits.

To build our robot, we need tools, This will include handheld tools (Hand drill, impact wrench, rivet tool + rivets, screwdrivers, drill bits, handsaw, wire crimping tool), and also larger equipment (drill press, band saw, angle grinder).

-Travel costs and competition registration fees

To compete, each competition requires us to pay a fee of upwards of $4000 CAD. We plan on going to two competitions: one regional competition, and one national. This also includes travel expenses such as flight and hotel bookings and robot shipping.
