On April 7th, 2020, our dad passed away unexpectedly. Days before our dad passed away, we knew he needed medical help and was diagnosed with pneumonia at a local clinic. Paired with his asthma, he was having such a difficult time breathing. Since my dad also had Type 2 diabetes, along with problems with his kidneys, the doctor at the clinic told him to go to the hospital. Unfortunately, when EMTs came to get him, they said he didn’t meet the criteria to go due to everything happening with COVID-19. They felt he would be safer resting at home.
The morning he passed, my mom had spoken to our PCP who told her that my dad would be fine by the end of the week, so long as he took the antibiotics prescribed. Hours later, my dad was gone.
A devoted dad and husband, he left behind his three (3) kids and our mom, just weeks before their 25th anniversary. As most dads do, our dad lived for his family and we loved him with all that we have.
My dad spent most of his years working behind a deli counter, then later becoming a taxi driver. Once the pandemic started, one by one my family was put out of work. It ended up being just myself and my dad working. Once my dad fell sick, it left just me.
I have started this GoFundMe to help ease this burden because I can’t do it alone. My family has struggled financially for as long as I could remember. I also suffer from diabetes which puts me at high risk but we don’t have any options. We are heartbroken and have to cope with the reality of paying bills, our mortgage, and putting food on the table.
We are asking anyone who knew our dad – or knows us – to please try and donate any amount. This will assist in helping us and ease the insecurity of our future.
Thank you.
