Hi, my name is Selena. I am starting a fundraiser to help avoid any further hardships for my brother's family.
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we ask for your prayers and support for Dereck Staggs, his wife, and two children.
On January 21st, 2022 we received the devastating news that Dereck's life was unexpectedly taken from us.
Dereck leaves behind two beautiful children - Isabella (age12) , Mason (age 11), and his loving wife Lorna.
We are graciously asking for your financial support to assist Dereck's family during this difficult time.
If you knew Dereck then you knew he was an absolute joy to be around. He was always "the life of the party," the" Jokester," and "The Iron Chef" at every gathering and someone that everyone wanted to be around.
More than the laughs, jokes, and the delicious food; Dereck was a big teddy bear at heart. His heart was so warm and inviting; people knew that from the moment you met him they could confide in him. Dereck was one of those guys that would drop what he was doing to help anyone in need.
Dereck passed away at the age of 38. He was the son of Mary and Ricky and was later blessed with John as his stepfather. He is survived by his wife Lorna and children Isabella and Mason. He was big brother to Selena, and a loving uncle to Maddison , David, Macie, Alexia, and Gianny. He was loved by his grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He has truly touched and left an impact on so many lives.
Dereck always had a passion for his exotic animals. Starting from his first iguana and water dog, to his now left behind chickens, Tagu lizards, snakes, monitor, turtle, bluegill, goldfish, Mia the lynx and his most precious baby; his blue nose pitbull, Ivy Jane Staggs.
Some of the things he enjoyed most in life were working on cars, riding dirt bikes, shooting his pellet gun, watching movies, spending time with family, and adding to his big collection of music. These were some of the things that helped him unwind and relax. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. It was on one of these camping trips that he would then meet the one who he would not only love and cherish but the one he would marry; Lorna. Together they would then continue to grow their love and be blessed with the births of Isabella and Mason.
Dereck was always striving to better himself to provide for his mother and sister. At the age of 18 he had started began a 17 year career at Valley Chrome Plating as a journey man. During this time he was also able to achieve his goal of getting his GED. In March of 2018, Dereck continued onto a new career with PG&E. He started as a utility worker in San Carlos, California. Two and a half years later he accepted an apprenticeship to become a Corrosion Mechanic. He would have completed this apprenticeship this
March of 2022. Although commuting from San Carlos, CA to Fresno, CA took a toll on his health, it was the greatest sacrifices he made to provide for his wife and children. While we will no longer be graced with his presence, we hope to alleviate the financial burden on his wife and children during this time of need. Many friends and family have reached out wanting to know how they can help and support Dereck's family. We set up this account to allow people to do that. Every dollar that is raised will go directly to his wife and children. Please share a story or memory of him. Thank you to everyone for their kindness, contributions, prayers and calls; it is truly appreciated.
