Late thursday night 12/22 early Friday Morning 12/23 I received a phone call from my husband Thomas Crofutt, who is a truck driver, saying he was going to the E.R. in Jackson GA. because he was having servere stomach pain. They told him he was passing a kidney stone and gave him some pain meds and antibiotic and sent him back to his truck.
He called me later that day and asked if I could come get him and bring him home. He was actually on his way home to spend Christmas with his 6 year old son Liam and my self. I left that evening and picked him up in Jackson GA. We returned home Christmas Eve around 2 that afternoon. Around 6 pm he asked if I would take him to E.R. (Parrish Medical). They did an x-ray and found free air in his chest so they prepped him for surgery. The surgery took about 5 hrs. While they were doing surgery they found the free air but also found a perforated small intestine, the kidney stone he was passing, that he has sepsis, and that he was in renal failure. They were able to fix the perforated small intestine by removing 8 inches of the intestine. They had to place a stint in his right kidney for the renal failure. They also removed about 2 gallons of stomach bile from the sepsis.
After the surgery they placed Tom in ICU. He was also put on a ventilator to help him relax and fight the infection. He has been on the ventilator for 6 days and will be on it for a few more. We are not sure what treatments he will have to have just yet but we do know that he is going to have a long hard recovery. We would appreciate any help that we can get due to the fact that he does not have health insurance and he was also the sole provider for the family. Thank you !!
