The Brooks family are an important contributor to our small town family. Tim is a teacher at Hammitt Elementary school specializing in aiding young students who have behavior or emotional disabilities and autism spectrum disorders. In his free time, Tim also volunteers as head coach for youth sport programs (baseball and football) in our small town of Leroy. He's coached consistently every year anywhere they needed assistance since his son was old enough to play community sports (approx 8-9 years). Shannon stays at home and cares for her charismatic, caring daughter, Chelsea (age 26) with special needs and her amazing son, Noah (age 13). Shannon also assists with caring for other children in the community and has helped raise many great kids, including my own.
Starting in the Summer of 2019, the Brooks family have encountered some challenging times. Tim started getting hoarse during the baseball season and assumed it was from the "coach" yelling. He thought it would just go away. Still hoarse while coaching junior football in the fall, he decided to see a doctor. He was first diagnosed with a polyp on a vocal chord. Surgery was planned in Chicago to remove the polyp. On Oct 5th, the growth was found to be cancerous. After a series of tests, he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in the false fold of the vocal chord. Since then, he has endured a total of 35 radiation treatments, 9 weeks of Chemotherapy infusions and 168 hours of Chemo pump.
We have no doubt Tim will continue to meet this challenge as he has every other challenge in his life: head on, with the focus and determination to conquer anything thrown his way. In the meantime, we're asking for contributions to help alleviate the financial burdens of the family (chemo, medical bills, lost income). There is no donation too small.
