Help support Mayson Boerm (the Boo Boo!)

Mayson- son, brother, grandson, & friend. My student...my bonus child.

Hi, My name is Martha Kizer, and I am sending out this plea for funds for my bonus child and student Mayson and his incredible momma Amy, who is the kindest & truest gem of a person. She is an advocate, a loyal friend, selfless and humble, and full of care and love for all those around her. You can count on her without a single doubt.

Mayson is almost 14 and was hospitalized on February 17th due to extreme gagging, vomiting, and difficulty maintaining his feed through his G-button. After multiple CT scans, x-rays, medical team and surgical team consultations, and visits by specialists, it was identified that the curvature of Mayson's spine is causing a blockage of his stomach and small intestines. Mayson not only has Cerebral Palsy and is non-verbal, but also has scoliosis, Lordosis, and is confined to a wheelchair for movement. The severely pronounced curvature in Mayson's spine has been described by the medical field as a rare and severe case, one the Doctors in San Antonio were not equipped to manage. The decision was made to transfer Mayson to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, Tx. for treatment, and there is no pending release date.

In the 9 weeks Mayson has been hospitalized, he has undergone several procedures, surgeries to place a new G-J button to access his intestines, removal of buttons, replacement of G-buttons, and now an open surgery to place a J-button to access his intestines for feeding. This surgery could not be performed laparoscopically due to the placement of the spine and recovery has been tough. Doctors are optimistic that this will provide the opportunity Mayson needs to build his health up as he cannot live on the PICC line he currently has.
Mayson has recently also been diagnosed with SMA syndrome, a very rare condition that involves the pinching of the small intestines just past the stomach.

As Mayson prepares for the next risky surgery to correct his spine- he needs a break! Thankfully he's had his momma Amy and Daine by his side through all of this. Unfortunately, this means they are separated from Mayson's sister Trissy and family or friends nearby.
We are all praying as Mayson goes through this next surgery and makes a full recovery, but any recovery is going to take months and the family needs help to get there. From medical bills to daily living expenses while in the hospital, to the bills waiting for them to return home, they need help. Amy is the last person to ask for help but she has been unable to work since early February and it is not clear when she will be able to get back to it. We are hoping that this fundraiser will help us to cover any medical bills that insurance won't pay for, and to contribute to monthly bills while they are out of work.

If you feel like helping to support the family in this time of healing, it would be greatly appreciated. The family has exhausted their resources during this time.

With gratitude,
Martha Kizer ( on behalf of Mayson, Amy & all the family)
