Almost a week ago my brother-in-law, Terry Perrigo, had a terrible work accident - falling twelve feet when the ladder he was on collapsed. He was transported to Duke University Hospital and has been in ICU since. He suffered multiple brain bleeds, broken bones and bruises. He woke up yesterday, was able to have his breathing tube removed and was even able to stand and talk. He has some moments when it's clear the old Terry is still there and a lot of moments that it's clear he's suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury. He will most likely be in the ICU for at least a few more weeks and will most likely require special TBI therapy when he's released.
God has performed miracles in Terry's life this past week and we greatly appreciate your prayers and support for Terry and our family. Please continue to pray for Terry's healing, strength for Laura as she is by his side and has to make difficult decisions, and patience for his family as they wait for updates.
Many of you have asked how you can help. Laura has been at her job for less than a year so she isn't yet eligible for FMLA and doesn't have PTO saved. It is clear that he will need care in different capacities for months and they will probably have to make renovations to their home to accommodate his needs.
If you know anything about Terry you know that he serves every Sunday and Wednesday at his church and he's the kind of guy that would do anything you ask... except if it involves pulling for UNC. Laura and her girls are the same way. Once he is home they will need support in different ways but right now they need our help to make sure they have the finances to cover their living expenses, added cost of travel and loss of income.
