It is with great sorrow that we share the news of the loss of Tariq's mother. Ms. Emily passed away on Friday, April 10th, 2020. We are hoping to raise money for Tariq and his sister, who will be taking care of him going forward.
Ms. Emily had a big heart. She was a kind, gentle soul who always wanted the best for her children. She raised Tariq to be the polite young man we all know, who enjoys bringing happiness to others.
In our society, we know that people with autism face constant doubt from all around. Not from Tariq's mother. Ms. Emily always supported Tariq with any difficult task he faced with trust and confidence that he could achieve it. And he did.
The ability of people with autism is often doubted by others, but Ms.Emily always supported and motivated Tariq through many difficult tasks, instilling confidence that he could achieve anything he set his mind to.
Tariq began volunteering in an office setting at the Brooklyn VA as part of his high school's work-study program, successfully learning a wide range of office skills. When his teacher suggested he should gain more vocational skills and experience, Ms. Emily encouraged Tariq and gave him confidence in his transition to a much larger, more intense department of the VA Hospital's Food and Nutrition Department, helping to prepare meals for patients. Tariq thrived. When she was told of her son's success working alongside dozens of VA staff and multiple supervisors, Ms. Emily replied, "Yes, I knew he could do it."
Ms. Emily was a wheelchair user, so Tariq made sure to always help out with daily tasks and chores around the house. She taught Tariq how to cook and prepare meals, including delicious meatballs, which he makes every Sunday.
The loss of Ms. Emily will undoubtedly leave emptiness in many of our hearts. With funds raised, we hope to help support Tariq and his sister during their time of need.
Please give what you can to support Tariq and his family. Please share this where you can. Anything you can donate is greatly appreciated.
