Help support Tara's family through eye surgery and recovery
Donation protected
My high school best friend, Tara Rixey, has to undergo surgery to remove a large mass behind her right eye. After being examined by her doctor in May for a small lump at the outer corner of her eye, she was referred to an ophthalmologist for further examination, testing and pictures, which then lead to her being referred to a retina specialist for even further testing. Finally in June, she was sent to the Medical University of SC in Charleston to an ocular surgeon. After some very in depth testing and MRI, it was determined that there was a large mass sitting behind her eye and pushing on her eye, causing her to have eye bulge. Unfortunately the radiologist was unable to determine what type of mass it was from the imaging. More imaging would have to be done, however the surgeon feels regardless of the imaging results, the mass is large and needs to be removed. Surgery is tentatively scheduled for September. Tara will be off of work, unpaid for apx 2 weeks following surgery. She had just started a new position in early June after her last position at her previous employer was eliminated during a company wide downsize. She only has one sick day available, as she has taken off for all of the above appointments and travel to get there, some appointments requiring lodging and travel expenses.
As a single mom with two kids starting school, there are even more added expenses right now which child support sadly doesn't cover. Her youngest attends a county funded charter school which requires uniforms in addition to all of the necessary classroom supplies. The amount of money requested will help cover her medical expenses and co pays, get the kids some necessities for back to school and help cover her lost wages from time off during recovery.
I know Tara and her children would greatly appreciate any amount of donation during this incredibly difficult and stressful time.
