Saturday, March 27th, 18 year-old Tacey Durrant was involved in a side by side ATV accident at Little Sahara Sand Dunes. The side by side landed on Tacey which resulted in many serious injuries which include Vertical Sheer and Compound Pelvic Fractures (5 Places), 9 broken ribs, a partial collapsed lung, multiple spinal compression fractures, and a scapula break. She was transported via ambulance to Utah Valley Medical Center.
Tacey went into surgery Monday night, the 30th, at 9:00 pm, and came out at 3:00 am. The surgeon was able to move her pelvis back into place with 3 pins. One goes from her left to her right side (picture included). She will be non weight bearing on her right side for 6 weeks and on her left side for 3 months.
Tacey will most likely spend a total of 7 days in ICU and will remain hospitalized for an additional week or so before being moved to a skilled nursing facility. She would possibly be here for up to 2 months, depending on recovery rate. Her injuries will require continued rehabilitation and therapy for some time.
When Tacey was just 8 years old she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Not only does this mean medication costs for insulin are high, but diabetics have slow blood circulation, which can result in slower, or poor, wound recovery. This will likely extend her recovery time and complicate treatment.
Tacey has been through many extremely difficult trials in her short lifetime, more than most of us will ever have to endure. We would appreciate any donations that can be offered to help tackle the mounting medical bills while she focuses on getting better and fully healed, and her family focuses on caring for her. You can also send donations via Venmo to @aubreejoolsen.
