Since 2014, I have had the privilege of serving as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon on annual medical missions to Guatemala. Each trip, I’ve witnessed the same truth: behind every child we meet is a story of resilience, hope, and an urgent need for care that is otherwise out of reach.
This year, our team is expanding our mission to Antigua, Guatemala, where hundreds of children are waiting for the chance to walk, run, and play without pain. Many of these children suffer from untreated clubfoot, hip dysplasia, and other conditions that can be corrected with surgery — but only if they have access to skilled teams, proper equipment, and essential supplies.
Why We Need Your Help
Performing these surgeries requires more than just surgeons. To increase the number of children we can help — and to provide the highest quality of care — we must bring additional surgical technicians with us. Surgical techs are critical members of our team, ensuring each operating room runs safely, efficiently, and with the precision every child deserves.
But bringing them, along with the supplies and medications we need, comes at a cost. This year alone, we must raise $30,000 to cover the medicines, sutures, implants, anesthesia, and sterile equipment required to treat our patients. Every single donation goes directly to patient care — not administration.
What Your Gift Makes Possible
$50 buys essential antibiotics or pain medications for a child after surgery.
$100 helps provide the sterile implants and surgical tools needed for bone repairs.
$250 covers the cost of one full day of operating room supplies.
$1,000 funds a life-changing surgery for a child who would otherwise go untreated.
Every dollar brings us closer to transforming the lives of children and families who have waited years for hope.
Why It Matters
When a child’s mobility is restored, their entire future opens up: they can attend school, play with friends, and grow into adulthood without the heavy burden of disability. For their parents, this means freedom from the despair of watching their child suffer with no options for care.
For as little as the cost of a cup of coffee, you can play a part in rewriting the story of a child’s life.
Join Us
Please consider making a donation today. Together, we can make sure that when these children come to the hospital in Antigua, we don’t have to say, “We don’t have the resources to help.” Instead, we can say: “Yes, we can help your child walk again.”
Thank you for your generosity and belief in this mission.
With gratitude,
Dr. Libby Bizier
