The weekend of October 18th, my sweet cousin Stephanie (Dunn) Moutria went to the ER due to severe headache/pain. Within days, she went from wonderful hospitals near her home in KY to a top doctor in his field in St. Louis. She underwent a multitude of tests, including a biopsy. The cause of her distress, Glioblastoma. A very fast-growing form of brain cancer. It is on both hemispheres of her brain and is inoperable. With swiftness that only God can bring, she started radiation treatment today, November 3rd. It is a 5-day-a-week, 6-week course of treatment. Her loving husband is the only one that can be with her due to hospital regulations. Dan had just returned to work after several months off due to knee surgery. They still have rent that is due, utilities that need to be paid, car payment, insurance, and the cost of food, travel, etc. Not to mention the mountain of co-payments that will be adding up. And what does Steph do during all of this? When she cannot get any rest in the hospital room because her roommate plays the television all day and night? She holds her hand and prays with her. She is the most selfless, gentle person I know. I am asking that you help in whatever way possible to aid these two in their journey, to make the struggle a little less stressful. A donation in whatever amount you can, a share of this fundraiser, a kind thought, and a prayer. Bless you all.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
——————————- Update———————————-
Stephanie has complete two of her 6 weeks of chemo and radiation treatments. Some days are better than others. There are ice cream trips and days where she sleeps a lot. Chemo is everyday, and starting to make her nauseous some. She is still keeping her brave face on and sharing her love and faith with everyone she meets.
————————Update 1/5/2026————————
Another update. New Year, new trials and tribulations. Radiation and chemo treatments are finished. Stephanie and Dan are both currently bunking with her mom as she is now going multiple times a week for blood draws. She is having to receive platelets &/or units of blood. So if you are not already a donor, this is a good example of why it is so important! Next up, is bone marrow testing and possibly bone marrow transplant. In a few more weeks it will be time for another MRI to see how treatment has worked. For the last few days she has been very dizzy, but still has been able to laugh. Her new saying is “I’m Whooah”. Which is best said not from the floor. I did a small song and dance and told her I gave her a new theme song, a 196?hit “I’m so Dizzy”. It’s a good thing she loves us as much as we all love her. Say an extra prayer for her and the family. And for her and Dan’s safe travels. And go give blood/plasma/platelets/bone marrow, it saves lives and cost you nothing but a little time.
