Stage 1 Fight

It is with our heavy hearts that my sisters and I have to share this news with the world in regards to our mother Phillicia Akins. After weeks of her enduring pain and on going stays at the hospital. With no answers. We finally received a report that our mother has STAGE 1 ovarian cancer.
Backstory : Our mother Phillicia Akins, 43 Y/O is a single mother of 3 Girls. Throughout the years our mother has made so many sacrifices to ensure her girls education and well being came first. Well now it’s our turn to help our mom fight. With little to no resources, we have been met with a giant that we know only God can defeat. Since 2022 our mother has been in and out of numerous hospitals due to pelvic issues, with little to no answers. Things started getting strange when all of a sudden she no longer could urinate on her own, landing her at the ER each time, with questions of WHY CAN’T I simply use the restroom? They never had answers, honestly the doctors didn’t know what was going on either. Each time she would get her bladder drained they would Leave her with a catheter for days, weeks sometimes for months at a time. Within this time frame she was hospitalized for 3 weeks for having sepsis, she ended up having 4-5 surgeries trying to figure out WHAT’S WRONG????
Finally they figured out that her urethra had closed up and THATS why she couldn’t urinate. After a few days she was released to go home. Thank God. Now With a Central Line carefully placed in her arm with tracks leading straight to her heart she was instructed/trained on how to give herself 30 days of IV antibiotics everyday. After 30 days of IV antibiotics and a little time things really started looking up for Mom, she was actually starting to feel better and was starting to do better and we definitely had a nice eight or nine month run where our mother was good. THEN BOOM… dreadfully one night her stomach was hurting really bad so she went to the ER,she was informed “she had a mass in her pelvic area”What kind of mass???
They didn’t know what it was (possibly a massive hard blood clot) but was willing to do exploratory surgery to try and drain it. So we went Into surgery everything was a success no more grapefruit sized mass inside her stomach. After 2 days she went home to only return back to the ER 6 days Post-op due to severe stomach pain .She was inform the mass had grown back YES IN 6 DAYS She was admitted and taken back into surgery only this time they were unsuccessful with removing the mass. She was sent home and told to let her body absorb it . Worried as ever she went home only to be rushed  back to the hospital a week later this time she can’t breathe and she’s literally saying “I FEEL LIKE IM BOUT TO DIE”
Doctors confirmed she had a bad case of pneumonia and had blood on both her lungs,  so she was admitted they started her on Blood thinners for the next 6 months which fixed the blood in the lungs as well as the mass in her pelvis. Finally life was back to normal until February 9,2025 when my mother woke up in excruciating stomach pain and wanted to go to the hospital where she was informed THEY SEE A HUGE MASS AGAIN and needs to be admitted but would have to be transferred to a different hospital so she could see Gynecologist that specializes in this sort of thing. After a few days of no real solution, she was discharged without a plan doctors not knowing who to refer her to or what to do.
We’ve constantly went to the hospital and got the same unpleasant news REPEATEDLY . “There’s nothing we can do” “We have to just wait it out” “We’ll monitor you and see if it goes away” Recently on April 10th,2025 she underwent surgery where they removed a small watermelon sized mass, 1 Ovary and lots of lesions surrounding her ovaries . We were told they would have a cancer doctor take a look at the “Concerning Spots” (while open)to be sure there was no cancer in her body . As a family we were over filled with joy when the doctors came back and announced to my sisters and I and my grandmother that she was cancer free. We left the hospital joyful feeling as though a weight was lifted off our shoulders. April 25, 2025 we walked into the post operation appointment positive and sure enough that this would just be a check up to track the process of her recovery.
At the conclusion of this appointment we received the most devastating news that crushed our spirit and froze everything around us. The worst news any family could hear. The Doctor looked my mother right in the eyes and said she has stage 1 ovarian cancer!! How could something so serious and underlying change the trajectory of our situation in 2 weeks !?? Furthermore, in the mist of receiving this news, a doctor walks up to us, and informs us that my mother’s insurance is no longer valid after already completing the surgery. We were shocked and confused because due to all of the past surgeries our mother has had we know before she can go through with the surgery she must have insurance, only to find out it was taken away, after they completed the surgery as she was in recovery, given back after a few calls, then taken away again upon needing another surgery. We are currently at the point were the doctors must perform another surgery in order to take out the other ovary that was left behind due to it being cancerous.
They left one ovary behind to try to prevent menopause as our mother is still in her early years, but this time we have no insurance on file. This journey has not just been physically painful for our mother, but also mentally and emotionally as she’s still trying to have enough energy for herself, to be a mother, a grandmother, and a daughter while fighting through this difficult situation. Our family has been with her to keep her afloat as it is a mental challenge for us as well. Being as though we are asking for your help Please ANYTHING will help even if it’s just $1 . We believe God will bring us through these hard times, and we ask that he dispatches his angels as we put our faith and trust in him through it all no matter what . Thank you in advance for taking the time to read our mom’s story. My Hope and prayer is that you find it in your heart to help in any way God bless you all.
