Yesterday evening, around 6pm, I received the call that no parent ever wants to hear. My 18-year-old son, Spencer, was involved in a horrific car accident.
Spencer and his girlfriend were driving through a green light when a drunk driver, speeding at 75mph, ran a red light and T-boned their car. The impact was devastating, and Spencer had to be extracted from the vehicle.
His girlfriend was fortunate to walk away with minimal injuries, though she is home recovering from a concussion and the emotional trauma of the accident. Spencer, however, was not as lucky. He was transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
Spencer has sustained severe and life-threatening injuries, including:
	•	A shattered pelvis
	•	Five broken ribs
	•	A partially collapsed lung
	•	Fractured tibia and femur (left leg)
	•	Occipital fracture at the base of his skull
	•	Laceration on his bladder
	•	Hematoma on his heart
	•	Significant facial injuries and internal bleeding in his pelvis
In just the first night, Spencer endured multiple procedures, including CT scans, MRIs, several blood transfusions, radiographic intervention to stop the pelvic bleeding, and a complex four-hour surgery to repair his pelvis and tibia. He currently has external fixators in his pelvis and tibia, which will need additional surgeries in the near future. He remains intubated and heavily sedated as doctors work to stabilize him.
That first night was critical, his blood pressure kept dropping due to internal bleeding. While the bleeding has been controlled, Spencer now faces an extremely long road ahead with more surgeries, a lengthy hospital stay, and weeks if not months of rehabilitation.
Spencer is only 18. He had just secured a new job and should be focused on building his future not fighting for his life in a hospital bed. Unfortunately, this tragedy means he will be unable to work for a long time, and the financial burden of his medical care will be overwhelming.
We are asking for support during this unimaginable time. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help with Spencer’s medical expenses and recovery. If you are unable to give, we would deeply appreciate it if you could share this page to spread the word.
Thank you for your prayers, love, and support. I will continue to post updates on Spencer’s condition as we walk this long road together.
With love and gratitude,
Spencer’s mom and family
