Aloha my name is Sonja, and I am one of the many individuals whose life was turned upside down by the devastating fire that swept through Lahaina on August 8th, 2023. For seven long months, I was displaced, unsure of what the future held.
The fire not only took away my home and belongings but also my sense of security and stability. It is still a challenging time, and I am still struggling to make ends meet and get back on my feet. It is hard to ask, which is why I've avoided this but I still need support. I need help getting back on my feet and any and all donations will be going towards food, utility bills, and mental health services for the next 6 months. I am working but it is extremely difficult in this state after experiencing such trauma.
Thanks to the support of friends, family, and strangers alike, I was able to get through those initial difficult months and their generosity provided me with the basic necessities I needed to survive and yet I still need support.
Today, I am grateful to say that I have finally been able to find a safe place to call home. While the road to recovery is long and challenging, I am hopeful for the future. I am stronger because of this experience, and I am determined to rebuild my life and contribute to rebuilding our community together.
Your support makes a difference in my life and the lives of so many others. As we continue to recover and rebuild, I ask for your continued support. Together, we can overcome this tragedy and emerge stronger than ever before.
Thank you for your generosity, compassion, and support during this difficult time.
