Help support Simon's fight against Stage 5 Kidney Disease
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Nikita, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your support during an incredibly difficult time for our little family.
In October 2023, my husband Simon was diagnosed with Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease after suffering a mini-stroke while we were living in Kalgoorlie, WA. This diagnosis changed everything.
Our little family of three — along with our two dogs — had just moved to WA in August 2023 for exciting work opportunities. Sadly, Simon never had the chance to start his new job, and I made the difficult decision to resign from my own position to care for him.
Simon has lived with Type 1 Diabetes for nearly 30 years, which has led to serious complications including diabetic neuropathy in both legs, bilateral cataracts, and now complete kidney failure. In March 2024, Simon began peritoneal dialysis, a treatment he must undergo daily to survive.
We've now received the devastating news that this treatment has failed — the toxins are not being removed from Simon’s body and fluid is building up. He is currently awaiting surgery to transition to haemodialysis, which we hope will better support his body.
However, this new treatment must be done in hospital, three times a week, and since Simon is unable to drive, I will need to reduce my work hours further to take him to and from each appointment.
Since his diagnosis, Simon has had three ICU admissions — two in Western Australia, and one more recently in New South Wales in July 2024, which happened on my birthday. He went into septic shock, suffered multiple seizures, and now lives with memory issues due to the strain on his brain.
Simon is now in a wheelchair full-time, unable to stand or walk due to fluid retention and nerve damage in his legs. He needs full assistance with all transfers, and I am now his primary carer while also trying to support our young son and keep our household going.
Simon hasn’t been able to work since his diagnosis, and we are doing everything we can — but we simply cannot do it alone.
Your kind donations will help us cover:
* Medical expenses and supplies for Simon’s care.
* Transport to and from hospitals and specialist appointments.
* Mobility and accessibility items for our home.
We know times are tough for everyone, and we’re deeply grateful for any help you can give — whether it’s through a donation or even just sharing our story. Your kindness and support mean the world to us and our little family.
From our family to yours — thank you for helping us hold onto hope.
With love,
Nikita, Simon, and Daniel xx
