Help Support Shirley Labiosa's In-Home Care and Recovery

Donation protected
We are organizing this fundraiser for my mom, Shirley Labiosa. I’m her only daughter, Angela Ornce, and my husband, Chris Ornce, is helping set this up as well.

Many in the Spring Branch community know Shirley in different ways. She was an active mom in the Wilchester Elementary, Memorial Middle, and Stratford High School communities, a dedicated Girl Scout leader, and served as the Administrative Assistant at Meadowood Elementary for 24 years, retiring in 2023 to spend more time with family and friends.

Before this summer, Shirley was fully independent, a full-time caregiver for her older sister Jeri, and a devoted "Gammy" to our two young kids. As recently as January, she was helping care for our 7-year-old and 2-year-old while we were away on vacation. Her life has been defined by service—both to her family and her beloved Houston community.

However, in the spring of this year, everything changed. Shirley began experiencing persistent fevers and mobility issues due to a bad hip, and in May, she was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer, including the aggressive Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Initially, the cancer was localized to her breasts, but complications arose quickly. She has endured multiple hospitalizations at MD Anderson due to infections, blood clots, and severe swelling in her feet, which have greatly impacted her mobility. Shirley is now dependent on limited in-home care, which we can only afford for four hours per day, alongside insurance-covered therapy and physician visits.

Her rapid health decline has stolen the independence she once had. She is fighting to regain her strength, but it has delayed her ability to start cancer treatment.

We are asking for your help to support Shirley’s in-home health care over the next few months while she focuses on getting stronger and planning her long-term treatment. We as a family are doing what we can, and the cost of this type of healthcare is burning through what savings Shirley has. These funds will be used to:

Expand in-home care: We are currently working with By Your Side Home Health and hope to increase her care from two hours in the morning and two in the evening to 6-8 hours per day over the next 12 weeks.
Provide essential equipment: We aim to provide Shirley with an adjustable bed to help her live on one floor and assist with her transitions from bed to bathroom. We hope insurance will cover most of this, but any uncovered costs will be supported by these funds.
Your generosity will help Shirley gain the strength she needs to improve her mobility and identify the best next steps in her Cancer journey. Thank you for your love, support, and kindness during this challenging time.
