Our mom Shelley has recently begun showing signs of early-onset dementia. Most of her intellectual abilities are strong, but she now has more frequent short-term memory loss, difficulty with problem-solving and decision-making, asks repetitive questions, and has a difficult time staying organized.
Her symptoms have slowly appeared over the past five years but have worsened quickly over the past two years, leading her to see a neurologist. Early-onset dementia can have several causes including genetic factors, Alzheimer’s disease, or other neurological conditions. Her doctors have recommended specialized tests, including an MRI, blood tests, and PET scan, to confirm whether Alzheimer’s is the cause. Unfortunately, these tests are extremely expensive and often not fully covered by insurance and in some cases, not covered at all until a high deductible is met.
We’re raising funds to help cover these essential medical expenses so our mom can receive the care, answers, and support she needs.
Funds raised will go directly toward:
- PET scan and MRI – $5,200 to confirm whether Alzheimer’s is the cause of her symptoms.
- Neuropsychological testing – $1,500 for detailed evaluations of memory and problem-solving.
- Specialist visits & follow-up care – $750 for ongoing neurology appointments.
- Medical tests & labs – $1,000+ to rule out other possible causes.
- Care & support expenses – $2,000+ for resources to help with daily life and organization.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with Shelley during this journey.
