Dear community,

My name is Ariston, and I have created this campaign on behalf of Fig Short (they/them, previously known as Emily) in order to raise funds to support their partner Ryan and parents Melanie and Larry, after the tragic and sudden loss of Fig in a car accident on March 27th, 2025.

While working and driving back to Portland from Newburg, Fig was crossing a busy intersection when they were struck at high speed by a vehicle driven by an elderly woman. Official reports have recently told us that Fig was killed on impact, and that neither driver was able to see the other due to the particular angles of this dangerous intersection.

Everyone who knows Fig can easily understand just how incredibly tragic, unfair, and painful this loss is. For me personally, Fig helped to provide the first truly safe and secure home in my adulthood, where I feel comfortable to live as my full authentic self. I know that Fig's powerful love and care for community, friends, and total strangers alike have created countless stories and feelings similar to my own.

While we work to navigate the grief and pain of this unimaginable reality we're now living, there are a number of significant expenses that Fig's family can't and should not take on alone. Therefore, I'm humbly asking community at large to come together to help Fig's family heal from this tragedy and move forward with security. The main expenses that need to be covered right now include:

-Family travel expenses

Mortgage and Utilities support for Fig & Ryan's home

Ryan and Fig purchased their home together in August 2022 with intentions to start a family. Ryan should be able to have security moving forward and not have to worry about immediately finding a roommate
