Last summer, Ryan was diagnosed with a very rare form of blood Cancer, Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma.
Ryan has had a very rough last few months and is currently at Brigham & Women's in Boston receiving care.
Here is Ryan's latest health update on his Caring Bridge Page:
"The past two weeks have been brutal. Ryan bopped from home to the hospital twice before heading to Brigham and Women’s in Boston last Monday which is where we are now.
Ryan significantly declined post- pneumonia. He couldn’t seem to recover to his “normal bad” state after that. It was terrifying.
His Maine oncologist met with us before his second Maine Med stay last week to say that the chemo is not working. This was his third kind of chemo this past year and he felt options were dwindling.
The doctors at Maine Med separately asked us if we had thought about or started any preparation for end of life care. This really blindsided us both because “end of life” had never been said to us through this experience.
If you want to call it good timing, Ryan had an already scheduled appointment at Dana Farber with his team here. We were able to push Maine Med to discharge him that morning to head straight to Boston.
After meeting with his team, they immediately got him admitted to Brigham and Women’s. He’s now been here for a week and the improvement he has shown is amazing. While these improvements are slow, they have completely reignited our hope for a future remission.
Currently, they are still working on getting him to a stabilized place so they can move on to the next phase, a trial chemo. As of now, we believe this will be able to take place in Maine. We will know more on this soon.
Thank you so much for everything. We knew we had an amazing community but the way you have all shown up for us in your own ways during this time has been life-changing. We love you so much."
