Help Support Rowan and His Family in His Fight Against a Rare Brain Cancer
Our hearts are so heavy as we share that Rowan, an incredible 13-year-old—known for his wit, strength, and smarts—was recently diagnosed with an extraordinarily rare type of brain cancer. To further complicate the matter, the tumor in Rowan’s brain was discovered the day they moved to Florida. Rowan is a passionate baseball catcher who lights up the field with his love for the game. He is the big brother to Macklen, 10, and Amaryn, 8, and their two rescue dogs, Bella and Lindsey. Despite the challenges he’s facing, Rowan’s spirit remains unbreakable, and we’re rallying around him to give him every chance to keep shining and being the amazing brother and son he is.
In August, just before the move, Rowan had one seizure which was initially thought to be heat-related. On the drive to Florida, he experienced a few more, which ultimately led to the discovery of a sizeable brain tumor and cyst on the left side of his brain. On August 6th, just two days after the move, he underwent surgery to remove the tumor, which was successfully biopsied, though a small unknown mass remains. A spinal tap brought some relief, showing no spread to his spinal fluid.
Then, on August 31st, the biopsy revealed a diagnosis that shook us to our core: a Central Nervous System Neuroepithelial Tumor, specifically PATZ1-fused (EWSR1::PATZ1) with chromosome 22 chromothripsis. This cancer is so rare it’s not yet documented in the World Health Organization’s classifications. Essentially, two genes shattered at some point in Rowan’s life—for reasons we don’t yet understand—and fused incorrectly, creating cancerous cells which then developed into the tumor and cyst. Doctors don’t have enough data to confirm whether it’s aggressive or not, and grading for this tumor type isn’t yet established.
The family is still awaiting a definitive treatment plan, which may include travel to Orlando, over two hours from their new home, adding logistical and financial strain for Rowan’s parents, Dekkar and Mystic, as they balance caring for Rowan, Macklen, and Amaryn during this overwhelming time.
This GoFundMe is being created to help with medical bills, travel expenses, and general support to ease the burden as the family navigates this uncertain journey. Every little bit makes a difference—whether it’s a donation, a share, or simply keeping Rowan and his family in your thoughts. No one should feel obligated to contribute; we know times are tough. But if you’re able, your support will help Rowan, our witty and strong baseball star, focus on fighting this battle and getting back to doing what he loves most—catching behind the plate, making everyone laugh, and being the best big brother to Macklen and Amaryn.
The Dyas family is endlessly grateful for their family, friends, and loved ones who’ve already wrapped them in love and support. Your encouragement is helping Rowan stay strong and giving Dekkar, Mystic, Macklen, and Amaryn the strength to keep going. We can’t thank you enough for standing by them. Together, we’ll cheer on our #13 as he faces this challenge with the same courage he brings to every aspect of his life.
