Hi, my name is Kat, and I’m a close friend of this beautiful family.
Last year, their 13-year-old daughter Elvie was diagnosed with very high-risk leukaemia with rearranged cells.
Instead of school milestones and teenage memories, she is facing approximately 2.5 years of intensive treatment, hospital stays, and constant medical vigilance.
It has now been nine months since her diagnosis.
Nine months of treatment.
Nine months of hospital rooms.
Nine months of life in survival mode.
Rosie stepped away from work to care for Elvie full-time. When your child is undergoing high-risk cancer treatment, being present is not optional.
Income has reduced significantly, but the expenses have not. Mortgage, food, fuel, travel to and from hospital, medications, parking, and the everyday costs of raising four children continue. Debt is mounting as they try to stay afloat during a battle that is far from over.
At the same time, Elvie’s treatment has left her immunocompromised and medically vulnerable. Her medical team has advised that exposure to mould and environmental risks could pose serious health complications during and even after chemotherapy.
The family home, which they had been slowly working to improve over time, now requires urgent professional remediation and repairs to make it safe for her to return between hospital stays. What was once manageable has become medically urgent.
For Elvie, a safe home environment is not a comfort — it is a necessity.
They are currently staying with extended family when needed to protect her health, but this is not sustainable long-term. Their goal is to create a clean, safe bedroom where their 13-year-old daughter can recover between treatments without added risk.
Asking for help does not come easily.
This is a hardworking family who never imagined they would need to share their story in this way. No one prepares for a 2.5-year cancer battle while navigating lost income, mounting expenses, and urgent home safety issues.
There is humility in this ask. But there is also reality.
Right now, survival means accepting support.
This fundraiser exists so this family can:
• Cover ongoing living and treatment-related costs
• Manage rising debt
• Professionally remediate and repair their home
• Create a safe bedroom for Elvie to return to during treatment
We are incredibly grateful to have raised nearly $35,000 so far. Every donation has carried this family further than they could have gone alone.
But this journey is far from over.
If you are able to donate, no matter how small, it makes a meaningful difference. If you cannot give, sharing this fundraiser helps more than you know.
Thank you for standing with Elvie.
Thank you for helping bring her safely home
