Introduction
Hi! I am Matthew Walker. I am a caring and ambitious person who wants to help a friend. I need your help to achieve my goal.
The Backstory
Let me introduce Tommo (Rick) who I have been working as his care support worker.
As a dedicated runner, Tommo raced in many competitions for his local running club, Holmfirth Harriers.
14 years ago, on completion of his race, which he won, he collapsed & stopped breathing. Members of the Holmfirth Harriers have first aid training & performed CPR on him until an ambulance arrived.
Tommo had suffered a stroke & as his brain was starved of oxygen for quite some time which resulted in him suffering a long term and incurable brain injury. It has affected his right hand side and unfortunately he also lost his speech.
He was in rehab for 3 months & over the years has had physio & operations on his right hand to try stop his muscles and limbs from spasming. In his later years, he has also been diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease.
My Goal
Recently Tommo mentioned to me that he wanted to use the gym equipment. I felt like I could help him get physically stronger by assisting him at the gym. I have focused on his ability and pushed his body to the limit what his body can endure.
Together with his determination and my assistance we have had some massive progression in Tommo’s physical ability. Tommo can now move his fingers to gasp the bar to lift weights.

This progress has spurred me on to try and achieve Tommo’s goal.
Tommo would like to be able to go for a walk with his wife and push himself in his wheelchair, without having to be assisted.
This means that he needs a wheelchair suited more specifically for his condition.
I would like to get Tommo a wheelchair that is comfortable and aids him to make it easier to push.
The Impact
The new wheelchair with power assisted wheels would make Tommo’s life so much easier and give him some independence back and allow him some more freedom.
How Can You Help
If you feel like this is a just cause and you would like to assist Tommo in gaining some more independence back in his life then please donate to his amazing cause.
