Update: It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to you this evening. Reggie Malikowski unexpectedly passed into eternity this morning and in the presence of the Lord. Please reach out to me (Emily) personally if you would like, or I know Molly also needs and is welcoming calls from close friends and family or text messages. Please pray for my niece and nephews and for My sister as they grieve the loss of this incredible man.
Hi everyone. On February 24, my brother in law Reggie, was in a significant semi accident. Around 6am, my sister Molly received a phone call that Reggie was air lifted to North Memorial hospital. There, the highway patrol explained the cause of the accident. Reggie began to feel flush right before he lost consciousness. Crossing the lane to oncoming traffic, a truck coming in the opposite direction was run off the road and into the ditch. (Thank the Lord that the truck driver was unharmed and was the one who called 911)
Reggie’s truck plowed through the ditch and headed towards the next road crushing a large utility box, hitting a stop sign, and then catapulting over the intersection to the other side of the road plowing through trees and then coming to a stop.
We praise the Lord that Reggie is alive! He did however break his L1 vertebrae and his T12 burst. They fused T12 to L2.
He also Fractured his sacrum. He is in a lot of pain and recovery is slow, met with many setbacks due to the trauma/impact his body received in the accident. Reggie is also receiving many tests to try and determine the cause of passing out.
Molly has been up at the hospital since this happened and many family members and friends have rallied together to do and be there for whatever Molly needs for her and the kids. I have been at their home with the kids so that they can continue to do the things they need to do. There is no set timeframe, at this point, of when the hospital thinks Reggie will be able to go home. Pain management is a huge hurdle to overcome, along with resolving some other injuries his body sustained resulting in lots of pain and swelling.
Here is why I am setting this up for the Malikowski’s…. Several people have asked where and how they can give. This unexpected event has left Reggie in a place where he is unable to work right now and the road to recovery could last several months. Reggie is a self employed truck driver, which supports his family. I am hoping that we can rally together to lift some of the financial burden and uncertainty of when Reggie will be able to go back to work. When Reggie comes home to continue his recovery, any support will allow Molly not have to worry about finances for groceries etc.
More than anything we ask for prayers!
Specifically for pain and for there to be more steps forward than backwards. We love this sweet family and they mean so much to us all.
Thank you all so much, in advance, for any financial support, calls of encouragement, and for all the people who have shown them love and support in other incredible ways!
