Powerjam Bands is a not-for-profit, multi-genre band school and award-winning youth music initiative supporting young people aged 11–19. For the past 10 years, we’ve helped young musicians find their voice, build confidence, and become part of a creative community. As we celebrate this milestone, despite the vast amount of pro bono work we undertake, we’re facing an increasing need for financial support to ensure this vital service can continue for future generations.

We offer young musicians the full band experience; from forming bands with like-minded peers, to weekly tutor-led rehearsals, regular live gigs, and professionally recording and releasing original music through our own fully non-profit record label where young musicians keep full copyrights of their work. Powerjam Bands isn’t just about learning music; it’s about personal growth, teamwork, and finding purpose through creativity.

Our inclusive approach welcomes young people from all backgrounds, including those with special educational needs, financial hardship, low self-esteem, or mental health challenges. Last year, 40% of our students came from disadvantaged backgrounds with many requiring financial support in the form of fee waivers and reductions in order to attend, and each year we see rising numbers of young people facing learning and mental health difficulties. For many, Powerjam is a safe, supportive space where they feel accepted, valued, and able to thrive.

Alongside musical development, by working towards clear goals and regular performances, our students build vital life skills such as teamwork, communication, creativity, accountability, and confidence. We average around 55 public performances each year, providing high-quality live music at festivals, fairs, and community events, whilst also supporting local organisers with their own fundraising efforts. We act as tutors, mentors, event organisers, roadies, booking agents, managers, social media teams, and music producers, giving young people real-world experience of what it means to be in a working band.

In recent years, one of our young bands had a single featured on ITV Love Island All Stars, another headlined at the Royal Albert Hall after winning a nationwide music competition, and two of our bands represented the UK at an international teen band festival in New York City two years in a row.

Powerjam Bands was recently named Music School of the Year 2025/26 (London & Southeast Prestige Awards) for our personalised, service-driven approach and commitment to excellence in youth music education. We were also voted a Big Issue Changemaker 2025, following a public vote recognising our social impact, and are 'Community Hero' Award winners.

Despite this success, we’ve been hit hard by government funding cuts to youth arts. At the same time, our student waiting list continues to grow, and without additional funding, we risk having to scale back our work. With your support, we can keep Powerjam going, support young people, and continue to provide a safe, inspiring, and life-changing experience through music and performance.
