Yesterday, August 25th 2025, was the hardest day of my life — I had to say goodbye to my sweet Perfy cat, my ride-or-die companion of 18 years. I adopted him as a tiny kitten from a kill shelter in Castaic, CA back in September 2007. I estimated that he might have been born around July/August 2007. He has been with me through every chapter since; inspiring my art, keeping me company through long nights of art school, and giving me unconditional love through life’s best and hardest moments.

Perfy was more than a cat. He was my biggest muse, my comfort, my shadow. His absence has left a crater-sized hole in my heart, but I take solace in knowing he left peacefully, surrounded by love, with the vet who had cared for him for a good part of his life.

As many of you know, I’ve been heavily impacted by the catastrophic collapse of the animation industry. I have not been able to find steady work in nearly three years, and in that time, we’ve relied solely on my partner’s income to stay afloat while I continue searching for opportunities. Because of this, even routine expenses are challenging, and the unexpected costs of end-of-life care and memorial arrangements for Perfy have been overwhelming.

While at-home euthanasia was out of reach financially, we were grateful to give Perfy a calm and dignified send-off with his trusted vet. Now, we hope to honor him with a special urn and keepsakes of his paw and nose, and to create a place in our home where his memory can be cherished forever.
