Hi my name is Samantha Baez. Im 25 years old and as a hobby I care for and spend time with strays and ferals all across Palm Beach County. I occasionally foster kittens and participate in TNVR for the community. One special cat in particular has been a favorite of mine for over half a year. A beautiful long hair black cat that Ive named Pepper. She was always a well kept stray but I always wondered how she could possibly be living behind a dumpster being so sweet, friendly and approachable. But to her demise, the cuddlebug in her is what I believe ultimately got her in trouble. Sweet Pepper disappeared for a few days. My heart sank after a couple days as I was worried something had happened. When she reappeared one night, she was greasy and scabbing all over her face. Her eyes were nearly swollen shut. She ran up to me crying louder than she usually does and I knew she needed help. I even began speculating that someone might have thrown some type of oil or grease on her. It felt and smelt of cooking oil. I came back for her, picked her up and put her in my carrier. The whole ride home she purred and as I brought her in she began to make biscuits in my lap... How this cat ever became homeless, I do not know. And I do not want to know. All I care about is making sure little Pepper has a home where she can give AND receive the love she was meant for. Her friendliness is a major vulnerability and highly unsafe as an outdoor cat.
That morning I called ACC and had them pick her up, I filed a cruelty report and put myself down as the source to ensure she would never be put back outside again. ACC vet gave her some treatment but I believe not everything that couldve been done due to their budget. I would like to bring her back to a veterinary clinic to reevaluate her condition and get an update on her state of mange. She also has a lot of mats, reeks of urine and needs to be groomed and bathed in some type medicated shampoo most likely due to the state of her skin.
Whatever funds are left over will be donated to local PBC animal shelters. This is to help me cover her needs while I foster her throughout recovery and find a permanent furever home. Thank you for all your care and support. It means so much to me and the WORLD to Pepper!!!
