Help Support Penny's Peace Of Mind After Amputation
Donation protected
Hey I am Loki, many of you will know my mother Penny either through myself, through her work or mutual friends.
This year has been particularly difficult for my mum in terms of her health. Starting from May 2024 she started experiencing severe swelling, discoloration and pain in her leg from the knee down.
After consultations with a doctor, a stay in the hospital, and various testing, it was determined that she is suffering from a progressive disease known as Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD). This disease causes excessive clotting and narrowing of arteries in the lower extremities and is a common complication of diabetes (she has type 1 diabetes and is insulin dependent).
Following a failed angiogram which was unable to remove the large clot that was restricting the vessels in her leg, she was rushed into the first emergency surgery to attempt to save her leg. The surgery conducted was a fasciotomy alongside an embolectomy to relieve the pressure off the arteries and remove the blood clots.
Following a period of recovery, things seemed to return to a new normal until she contracted cellulitus in the diseased leg. It appears the cellulitus infection never truly left her body despite medical intervention and further inpatient stays.
As of Friday the 13th December 2024, my mum was once again rushed into hospital. She was showing obvious signs of severe infection and on Saturday the 14th underwent an emergency surgery to amputate her leg. She was deemed septic and the leg was unable to be saved due to the progression and damage of the infection.
The goal of this fundraiser is to raise as much as possible to help my mum and dad with living costs, petrol costs for hospital visitations, and put towards accessibility aids such as a motorised wheelchair and possible moving costs to move her into a more accessible home that is easily adaptable to her needs.
My folks are both incredibly hard working individuals with full time jobs and my mothers degrading health and recent amputation means that their joint income has now gone to a solo income and has started to cause strain on finances and bills.
My Mum's recovery is very lengthy, her stay in hospital is thought to be at least 6 weeks and she is likely to be unable to work for the next 6 months if not more.
ALL donations will go directly to her for bills, rent, daily living and any other needs she may have while she is unable to work to allow her some peace of mind while she heals and adjusts to a new way of life.
Any and all donations are welcome and greatly appreciated by not only myself but all those near and dear to our family.
Thank you all for any support.
Sincere and greatest appreciations:
Loki
