I wish I could tell you all that Pax is improving, but he is not. His right lung is a mess and septic. As pneumonia goes, he is not following the pattern.
The very top of his lung is socked in with infection. Watching bronchoscope, it is creamy white, like a river, not little flecks. This is too far for ventilator suction to reach. The pulmonologist suctioned more of that pocket and did TPA. (A bronchial washing to break up pus and blood so the antibiotics they use will be more effective.) And the color is angry red which also abnormal. Dr said it will take 3-6mo for his lung to heal even after we get past this. So Dena will be adding Pulmonologist visits to her Endocrinologist visits on her schedule.
The middle of his lung right below this pocket also has dense concentration and fluid.
The lower lobe is filled with pneumonia. And then there is fluid collection outside his lung where the chest tube is. There is more blood in that drainage than there should be. His hemoglobin keeps dropping so he has had 2 units of blood and will get another today.
They are about to put in a central line. Calling XR in now verifying placement and he has a new feeding tube through his nose.
Antibiotic going in now is rocephen don't know what we will get next. Pain managed with versed. They are holding off on insertion of another chest tube due to bloody drainage but maybe tomorrow or tues. Need to address bleeding first. So I guess we take 2 steps back b4 we take 3 steps forward. Maybe Santa will make a circle back and visit. Dena feeling overwhelmed and defeated on that level. We can have Christmas anytime as long as we are together. Keep sending prayers upward for us. Pretty scary, helpless time
