HELP SUPPORT PAUL HESS!

WHAT HAPPENED:
On the evening of Wednesday November 14th, Paul Hess was involved in a very serious motorcycle crash in San Diego California while traveling. He was Life Flighted to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where he remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit. Upon arrival, he underwent several hours of emergency surgery to stop internal bleeding. The surgery was a success!

WHO PAUL IS:
With Paul, it is always family first. He is very active in his kid’s lives. He has donated hundreds of volunteer hours to the Newberg community in the form of coaching  youth football, youth baseball and helping to facilitate other youth programs. Paul is passionate about his faith, his family, his friends, his work, youth sports and many other things. Paul has always been a generous giver of his time and resources. We do not want Paul to have to worry about his family being taken care of, or honoring his financial commitments. He is one of the strongest and hardest working men out there! He has worked as a police officer, K-9 officer and Police Sergeant for the last 25+ years.

CURRENT SITUATION:
Paul has sustained multiple very serious injuries.  He has an incredible trauma team of doctors, that say he is likely to make a full recovery, over time and with a lot of hard work.
As of right now, Paul is heavily sedated and intubated, awaiting surgery on one of the injuries to his leg. They are trying to allow his body some time to begin to repair and to heal. Paul has been surrounded by family and friends since the moment he arrived. There have been glimpses of Paul and his sense of humor.  They have complete faith that he’s going to pull through this and make a complete recovery.  He’s going to need the love and support of all of his friends and family, especially when he returns home.

THE FAMILY:
Paul’s four kids are are down with him now, as well as some family, very close friends and also coworkers from Hillsboro Police Department. He will not be left alone, someone will always be by his side.
We are asking for any support that you can show Paul and his family during this very difficult and stressful time. Paul is facing a large amount of medical bills and a huge loss of time from work. It is undetermined how long this recovery could take or even when he will be moved out of the ICU. At this time, it is unclear when he will be able to make the trip back to Oregon.

EXPENSES:
All of this creates a lot of unexpected travel expenses for his family and surmounting medical bills as well as keeping Paul‘s financial commitments met while he is unable to do so in the hospital. He does have vacation and sick time through his employer, Hillsboro PD.  At some point, his paid time will run out and we can help Paul and his family supplement the loss of income. The kids will also need to travel between Oregon and California to be down by their Dad’s side. How frequently will depend on his condition and how long he’s in California. This creates additional flight and hotel costs. The initial recovery will likely be a very long process far from home, which makes it difficult on the kids. All four have a very strong bond with Paul.

Let’s show Paul and his family how we can give back to him during his time of need! Let’s support him when he will need it the most!
We will continue to update this page during Paul’s entire recovery process. Please share this go fund me page with others! Spread the word to help support Paul and his family during this incredibly stressful time.  Any and all help and prayers for Paul and his family would be very appreciated.

My name is Cassandre Guillén. I have created this as a lifelong friend of this family. I live and work in the same community (Newberg/Dundee) as the Hess family. Thank you for your help in raising funds for Paul’s kids to visit him while he is in San Diego and for his medical bills/other financial obligations in the future. I will be withdrawing the funds into a separate savings account in my name until Paul is able to tell me how to disperse them. Prior to that time they will only be used for airfare for his children to see him.
