We are creating this GoFundMe on behalf of our mom Darlene Bruce, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2025. This has been an incredibly difficult and emotional time for her and our family. We are taking things one day at a time with her upcoming chemotherapy treatments with radiation to follow. Our mom is the kind of person who has always put others first. She’s a loving and strong woman who is endlessly supportive of everyone around her. Seeing her face this diagnosis has been heartbreaking, but she’s meeting it with strength, courage, and determination.

Her journey started with her first lumpectomy and Sentinel lymph node removal on October 14th. Two hours after coming home, she quickly returned to the ER as she was bleeding from her surgical site. Once she arrived via ambulance, the ER stated they were too busy to treat her. They dismissed all her concerns, did not find the reason for the excessive bleeding, rebandaged her dressings, and sent her home. After five days, she was once again rushed to the hospital via ambulance where she underwent emergency surgery. She was bleeding internally and had a massive hematoma, stretched down to her waist, that had to be drained. Tissues also needed to be cauterized that were actively bleeding. Another week went by and she was back in the ER with a bad infection leaking out of her surgical site. They drained a litre of fluid, admitted her for four days, and put her on heavy antibiotics. On Dec 11th, she underwent a second lumpectomy to remove even more cancerous cells that had been missed during the first surgery.

As she begins her chemotherapy treatment, the medical expenses are quickly adding up. Doctor visits, medications, travel, and time away from work have made it hard to pay the bills at home, not to mention all the extra costs surrounding this difficult process. While we are focused on her healing, the financial stress has become an added burden that no family is ever fully prepared for. We are asking for help to ease that burden so our mom can focus fully on her recovery. Any donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward keeping her life on track (rent, bills, etc.), as well as medical bills and other related expenses.
