A Heartfelt Appeal to our Neighbours, Friends, and Family in Maple Ridge.

Today, we are writing this with a heaviness that we never imagined having to carry. We at Bean Around Books have fought hard against the financial challenges affecting so many small, community businesses. We have cut expenses, and tightened our operations, but despite our efforts we are looking to the community for support!

We are seeking investments from the community in order to keep our business, safe space, and humble abode operational with some room to maneuver while we transition into a new era. Bean Around Books is a non-profit bookstore/café that functions as a training center, providing youth with the unique opportunity and support to gain employable skills and experience that enhance resumes and further careers. To date, we’ve worked with over 200 future leaders, and continue to work with various local organizations, the school district, and independent youth. Whether it’s their first work experience or seeking to rebuild a routine, we help youth aged 16-30 gain skills in cash handling, customer service, barista training, and more! We understand the need for valuable work experience for youth, and our customers know that we help enrich and empower them to take the next step on their journeys.

But we are not just a café. For a long time, we have been a home away from home for many people from all corners of the community who appreciate a special place to study, discuss, plan, and engage in meaningful dialogue through conversation, books, and coffee. Our Local Authors love to hold book promotions and publishing events in our space, poets have started flocking back for our monthly Poetry Slams, and our tea and coffee lovers choose us because of our delicious blends.

A deep sense of community and friendship starts at Bean Around Books, and we need your help.

We know times are tough for many, and asking for help is not easy. Every contribution, big or small, will go directly to keeping the café open, supporting staff, and stabilizing operations while we build a sustainable long-term recovery plan. Please help us to continue to serve the community in so many different ways!
