Olivia is just 22 years old, and she is one of the sweetest, most caring people you could ever meet. She has always been a bright light, not only in her family’s life, but in her circle of friends and in our entire community. She is known for her kindness, her big heart, and the way she makes everyone around her feel cared for.

About a month ago, everything changed. Olivia was in a devastating ATV accident that left her with severe injuries, the most serious being to her head. For weeks she was kept in a medically induced coma to allow her body the time it needed to rest and begin healing. She is no longer sedated now, and her family waits for the moment she wakes up. She has already endured more than most of us can imagine, surgeries, MRIs, X-rays, and countless procedures, and there will be many more ahead. When she wakes up, Olivia will face the enormous challenge of relearning many of the things we all take for granted. Her recovery will be long and difficult, but if there’s one thing everyone knows about Olivia, it’s that she is a fighter.

Her mom, dad, and two sisters have not left her side since the accident. They are with her day and night, holding her hand, praying, and giving her the love and strength she needs. They travel back and forth to the hospital multiple times a day, putting their own lives on hold, stepping back from work to care for Olivia full time, and carrying the weight of a worry no family should ever have to carry. And this will not end once Olivia wakes up, her recovery will mean traveling outside of Saint John for appointments until she is back to her amazing self.

Having a child in the hospital is heartbreaking enough. The last thing Olivia’s family should have to worry about is finances. That is where we, as a community, can step in. Olivia’s family has always been the type to show up for others without hesitation. They are the ones who would lend a hand, offer support, or give whatever they could and now, it’s our turn to do the same for them.

It will ease the burden of hospital travel, lost work, and all the costs that come with caring for Olivia through her long recovery. The goal is simple: to let them focus on Olivia, not bills.
