On February 12th 2025, Night was rushed to the emergency vet due to extreme lethargy, weakness, and a reluctance to eat. After initial testing, Night was deemed to be in a critical state due to extremely low glucose, elevated levels of potassium detected from his blood labs, and a low heart rate.
After hours of testing, xrays, many tears, and the work of an amazing ER Vet staff, it was confirmed that Night has Addison's disease and had experienced acute adrenal failure also called addison's crisis. Addison's disease (in short) is when a dog's adrenal glands do not work properly to produce the normal hormones that regulate the body's electrolytes and other important functions like blood pressure and metabolism.
At this time, he is staying overnight and projected to stay for the next 2-3 days at the emergency vet for monitoring to ensure there are no addional underlying concerns.
The good news is now that the problem has been identified, Night should hopefully be able to make a full recovery and live a long and normal healthy life, with the exception of needing medication and a monthy steroid shot for the rest of his days. I am more than thankful for this news since it means my pup can live on and be happy again.
But this is where I will please ask for any help you can spare. I am 6 months pregnant and expecting my first child this coming June. The overall bills due from testing, medication, treatment plans and boarding care for Night came out to a total of about $9500.00 - We are doing our best to cover the costs, but it has completely depleted our savings...With our family growing very soon, this has been heartbreaking and incredibly stressful on what it means for our future.
I will be posting updates on Night as they become available, and I appreciate anyone who is able to help or atleast spread the word for us. Thank you so much for your time and much love.
