Help Support Nguany Machar’s Family

On Friday, January 21st, 2022 Peter Nguany Machar. A 65 year old father, grandfather, resident of Portland Maine and an elder in the South Sudanese community. Was hit by a 23 year old Portland resident with a car. At this point that is all the information the family has gathered from news outlets. Machar has suffered life threatening injuries and thus far has had to get surgery on both of his legs that were crushed from the knees down and his back which has broken vertebrae’s. Machar contracted Covid in the Emergency Room and has now been moved to the Covid Trauma unit, which denies his family the opportunity to see or touch him. At this time Machar’s family is seeking financial help to pay for the legal fees and to prepare for all outcomes. As a community member Machar has always shown up to support and encourage families as they underwent crisis in their own lives. It’s never easy to ask for help, but in order to get Machar the legal support that he needs we need the community’s support. As of this evening Communication has made it to the family that Machar is on life support. The family would very much appreciate prayers and any form of financial support at this time.
