On February 11, 2022, 12-year-old Sierra Beverly was killed, and her mother, Naomi Beverly, suffered catastrophic, permanent physical and brain injuries when a pickup truck collided with their car head-on on Oakland Road near Brantford. The driver, Darris James Wilson, was speeding at 90 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, drifted into their lane, and made no attempt to brake. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Brant County initially charged Wilson on April 11th, 2022, with five offences, including operation causing death and operation while impaired, stating a “blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus”.
We are currently crowd funding to assist Naomi Beverly in her every day expenses, travel to and from court to seek justice for her daughter Sierra, ongoing medical appointments etc as she is no longer able to work.
The criminal court case has passed and caused financial and health strains on the family, and there is still a civil case upcoming that she will need to attend.
”Their lawyer, Sabrina Seibel, noted that if Naomi had the same injuries before insurance reforms took hold in 2016, she would have had an additional $1 million available for rehabilitation and attendant care benefits.
“(What she has now) will simply be insufficient to cover her care costs,” said Seibel.” -The Brantford Expositor Sept 11, 2026.
In addition to crowd funding, we are seeking justice for Sierra and Naomi.
In September 2026, Brantford Judge Gethin Edward sentenced Wilson to just two years of house arrest, with key pieces of the initial charges lacuna without explanation.
The Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General has a strict 30-day window from the date of sentencing to appeal this lenient ruling.
With the statutory window to file a Crown Appeal closing rapidly, we strongly urge members of the public to:

Justice Edward, respectfully, acts for restorative practices, funded a specialized Gladue Court space and is an Academic Advocate with the Laurier Legacy Project. However, with this ruling, the Canadian public expresses deep concern for the misuse of Gladue Principles and the precedent it establishes.
A united community cannot be ignored!
Thank you from the friends and family of Sierra and Naomi Beverly.
