Help support Najwa, her grandchildren and their family

Donation protected
Dear friends and family,

I am asking for your support on behalf of Najwa and her family, who endure immensely difficult living situations in Gaza. I was put in contact with Najwa through a friend of their family, who was displaced from Gaza a year ago and is currently living in Cairo (where I am spending my Year Abroad learning Arabic) under the care of a humanitarian organization. This page is created to raise awareness and bring urgent support to Najwa and her family, who are suffering unimaginably in the war-torn Gaza Strip.

Najwa is sixty-five years old and is from Khan Younis, Gaza. She once lived in a large house with her extended family - surrounded by her six children, her grandchildren, and her siblings. However, the war in Gaza has caused extreme hardship and sorrow on her and her family. Her eldest son - a father of six children - was killed by sniper fire while displaced in a tent. His family had to bury him temporarily on the spot. On that very same day, Najwa lost her brother. Four months later, her sister and eleven members of her sister's family were also killed.

The weight of grief and loss has severely affected Najwa's health, as she suffered a stroke that impaired her eyesight and mobility, for which she is currently undergoing treatment. Her husband passed away two months ago, leaving Najwa in an incredibly fragile state.

Despite her poor health and overwhelming hardships, Najwa fights everyday for the survival of her remaining family, especially her orphaned grandchildren. She currently lives in a single tent with more than thirty family members, which offers no protection from the heat of the summer or the cold and rain which will come this winter.

The money that is donated to this campaign will go towards:
  • Food and clean water
  • Najwa's medical care for her stroke, helping her to regain her eyesight and mobility.
  • Shelter and hygiene essentials such as soap, diapers, and sanitary pads, helping them to live in more humane conditions
  • Fuel and electricity, enabling them to cook and carry out basic daily activities
  • Essential medicines and clothes for the family

The living conditions that the family currently faces.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who intends to donate. Your kindness is indescribable. Amidst the siege, forced famine, displacement, and genocide, your support will help them regain their strength and continue to thrive.

This campaign supports more than 30 people, most of whom are children: Najwa's sons and daughters, her sisters, her brothers, and their children. Your donations are not just numbers for them; they are meals. Diapers instead of plastic bags, medicines, clothes, and money for when the power runs out.

The Israeli government has been blocking aid trucks from entering Gaza for over three months, meaning that food prices have become exorbitant. According to a report from the UN, Gaza's entire population is currently at risk of famine. The report also predicts that 71,000 children and 17,000 mothers require acute treatment for malnutrition. A single meal for a family of this size can cost more than 250$. One of her daughters-in-law and another has a child born in the war and is at risk of miscarriage due to their inability to access sufficient and nutritious food. They feel uneasy from the constant stress.
