Help Support Mzansi Restaurant
Donation protected
Hi friends and family,
For those of you who don't know, I was studying abroad in Cape Town, South Africa before concerns surrounding COVID-19 prompted the government to declare a state of emergency and almost completely restrict international tourism. This puts a lot of businesses in South Africa in danger but perhaps none more so than the family business of my roommate Mbassa.
His family owns, operates and lives out of Mzansi Restaurant in his home township of Langa. They strive to provide an authentic African experience with delicious food, wonderful music and interesting stories about the history of Langa and Mzansi. It is the highest rated restaurant in all of Cape Town on TripAdvisor and depends almost entirely on international tourist dollars to keep the lights on.
The recent restrictions on travel into South Africa have caused a great deal of uncertainty surrounding Mbassa's family, the Mzansi Restaurant and their ability to continue to pay all of their employees the wages they need to persist through these trying times. Excluding Mbassa's family, the tourist dollars that normally sustain Mzansi also support 14 employees (5 kitchen staff, 5 band members, 2 security guards and 2 waiters) all of whom are residents of the impoverished Langa township where prospects of other work in these times is difficult to come by, if not impossible.
I understand that these are tough times for everyone financially, but if there is anything you can contribute to help support his restaurant, your donation would help keep the lights on at Mzansi, support the employees, reverberate through the economy of their community as a whole and ensure that tourists for decades to come can still come to Langa and enjoy what is sure to be one of the best meals and experiences they will ever have.
If you can donate anything or simply share this with your friends and family it would be greatly appreciated by not only me but also Mbassa, his family, the fellow employees and the entire community of Langa at large.
Thank you.
