A little over a year ago, Mya noticed a spot on her abdomen. She talked to her Dr about it & was told it was just a cyst. During the course of this past year, she asked about it several times because it wasn’t going away. Finally in November her Dr agreed to send her to a dermatologist, where they performed a biopsy and found out it was melanoma.
At the end of November, Mya had her PET scan which showed the cancer had metastasized (stage 4 melanoma). At this point we are still sorting through it all, but we know she has tumors in several areas of her body.
Her insurance has been dragging their feet with treatment as well as giving her a plan for treatment, but we got a second opinion with another Dr who is actively trying to help her! Unfortunately though her copays are high… just this week they approved her treatment and less than one week into it her copays are at almost at $5,000 - and with at least 6 months of treatment, this is just the beginning!!
Due to the progression of the cancer and the aggressiveness of the treatments, Mya has not felt well enough to work, but so far her primary Dr has refused to sign the paperwork to approve Mya’s disability!
Mya is only 23 and to say that this diagnosis was heart shattering would be an understatement! We are praying that her body can overcome this and that we can keep up with all of these co pays as we go!
We are humbly asking for help during this difficult time. ANY amount will be helpful and truly appreciated!!
