In July 2025, my sister, Natalie, experienced a rare, life-threatening condition that happened spontaneously and for unknown reasons.
She suffered spontaneous carotid artery dissections on both sides of her neck, and as a result developed occlusions in the two main vessels that carry blood to the brain. As you can imagine, she was very physically ill for quite some time and has still not fully recovered.
To have this condition on both sides is incredibly rare, especially in someone who is only 36 years old, and most who have it do not survive. Natalie is very lucky to be alive today, but she has suffered 6 strokes thus far and is unable to return to work as a registered nurse for the foreseeable future.
The healthcare that Natalie needs is not available where we live, and due to the loss of her job she no longer has the means to travel to the places in the world where she could receive the right medical treatment. On top of this, she has been denied all the income supplementation that she has applied for, so even affording her day to day living expenses is becoming impossible for her.
Natalie has always been kind and generous to everyone she meets. As a nurse, she dedicated her life to helping others and was extremely passionate about providing care and support to those who need it the most. She always put others before herself, and never asked for anything in return.
Now she is more in need than she's ever been in her life. I've decided to start this fundraiser to get my sister the financial help that she both needs and deserves. My hope is to be able to provide her support until at least March 2026. Please consider donating to this fundraiser so that we can reach this goal and give my sister a chance at returning to a normal life.
